For Irakli Zarqua, a Georgian Dream MP, the conference of Europe's largest party is an ordinary party event.
Zarqua commented on the invitation of Mikheil Saakashvili to speak at the EPP conference and said:
"Just want to ask you a question. If I am not mistaken, "National Movement" still has Chairman Nikanor Melia. Is he invited or not? I would be glad if you could tell me. As far as I know, he has not been invited. A political organization that is a member and pays membership dues, had their chairman not invited. What one party does with another, in some conference, is not an interstate affair. It's a regular conference, of a regular party, so don't mislead the public," Zarqua said.
For the record, Georgia's third president in prison is being asked to speak at the European People's Party conference. Mikheil Saakashvili personally received an invitation from the chairman of the People's Party, Donald Tusk.
