A 27-year-old Georgian fighter, Tato Bigvava, was killed at Azovstal. He was allegedly the victim of a cluster bomb dropped by Russian occupants on the territory of the Azovstal shelter.
Bigvava reportedly first secured a humanitarian corridor to evacuate children and elderly people from the shelter before he died, and then an explosion occurred while patrolling the area. Tato Bigvava last spoke to his family on May 7.
Tato Bigvava was in charge of the Second Company of the Azov Regiment. After graduating from the Ukrainian Military Academy, he had served with the battalion since 2014, and about a month ago he was awarded the Order of Courage by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. Bigvava's family are migrants from Sokhumi. They are citizens of Ukraine. They lived in Dnepropetrovsk, but during the war the occupiers destroyed their house.
Bigvava's body is still in the area of the Azovstal plant, and it is not known when it will be recovered.
