With my imprisonment the Georgian Dream imprisoned itself and delayed Georgia's European development | Interview with Nika Gvaramia from prison

First telephone interview from Rustavi Prison - An exclusive telephone interview was given by Nika Gvaramia, CEO of the Mtavari Channel, to the "Main Accents" program.

Imprisonment and Reality

" It didn't turn out to be difficult, because first of all, when you've thought over such things, you're ready, I've been thinking this over and have been ready for a long time, besides, you know me well, you really know that when I have a moral edge and I feel good, then I don't have difficulties. Even now I have no difficulty it would be a lie to tell you that I'm glad, I'm not, but it's a prison.

With my imprisonment the Georgian Dream imprisoned itself and unfortunately, while not stopped, it has delayed the European development of Georgia. In a closed society, it is not ideas that break through, but superideas. In our case, it is the homeland. So it was on April 9, so it was in 2003, on June 20, and so it will be now. The homeland for us is the European roots. They have already halted it, but they could not stop it...

When asked yesterday by Achiko Talakvadze, former Speaker of the Parliament, who does not even know why he left, he did not even explain why he is not the Speaker of the Parliament. Do we support this government... I, Nika Gvaramia, would support everything he listed. Misha Saakashvili also would raise his hand in support, he just cant, this is because Achiko Talakvadze and others like him. Even Misha Saakashvili would if he wasn't being killed, but he can't raise his hand. But I ask Achiko Talakvadze: would he raise his hands to what the Europeans told Prime Minister Garibashvili, that he has political prisoners and it must be corrected, that they are killing the third President and that the court is non existent, that the last elections were rigged and it should not be held. Would he raise his hand to this? And who does he think will raise their hand to the torture and death of Mikheil Saakashvili in the EU? The countries whose Seimas and Parliaments have declared this man a victim of torture and are asking him to be transferred. Would these people vote for entry of such a country, even for rapprochement with the EU? Do you think that Viola von Kramon, who is simply called a MEP and say horrible things about her, is not just an MEP, she is an important part of the German political elite, whose country is already skeptical about EU enlargement? And we need to know that the support of all countries is needed. Will Poland, which has visited on the subject Saakashvili 7 times and sometimes were not met, sometimes were insulted, would this country show support?" says Nika Gvaramia.

Strategy and EU candidacy:

"I, Nika Gvaramia, accept that even if I am in this cell, we should enter the EU and i will remain in this cell. I can't say that about Mikheil Saakashvili because he is dying. Nika Gvaramia will be free and Saakashvili is dying. Is that what they think about? Will this be allowed in the EU? Will the EU allow torture cases, will they allow judges of a non-existent court? This is a civilization that accepts you as their own because that's what they assume. But it's not over yet. We will definitely get something, I will be glad to get the maximum, but let's not lie to ourselves, it won't happen. We'll get something, but we'll get the least compared to Ukraine and Moldova... We are runner ups, but Europe must also remember that if they cut off the dialogue formats with us and completely closes the door, which I rule out, then this runner up will be lost and we will be Russia's runner ups, so this should not happen either," said Nika Gvaramia.

On Anthony Blinken's letter and European perspectives:

"Blinken's letter of April 22, which was not published until after his representative arrived and published, shall we say, was a direct call on the Foreign Ministry to make a statement on Ukraine, which has still not been fulfilled. You are not mistaken that the power who hid Blinken's letter cannot rule a free nation, which i declare, to be a part of a free world. But this nation must remember that it is not enough just to vote in a referendum, just to declare that you want Europe. We must show our European will in every election and by defending the stolen elections as well. We have to assert this all the time, just talking that we want Europe doesn't work. Because everyone says that we want it, but we have become the runner ups. The fact that we are in this dialogue is already a merit of the Georgian people, the Georgian people have already achieved this window of opportunity for us, but they will close it if we keep this government. And if we keep them more and more, the window will be closed forever," he said.

The end of the phone call.
