The EU has no reason to reject the granting of candidate status to Georgia - Kobakhidze

Irakli Kobakhidze, chairman of the Georgian Dream, repeats that the plan of the opposition and its foreign lobbyists is that the country must not be able to obtain EU candidate status. He held a briefing on the subject and stated that the UNM and "its satellites" want to follow this coup d'etat and get involved in a war in Georgia.

"Georgia has already fulfilled 45% of its obligations under the Association Agreement, which is an unprecedented result. According to this data, Georgia is ahead not only of Ukraine and Moldova, but also of some countries that already have candidate status. Moreover, by granting candidate status, the EU spends no more on Georgia than it already does, as you know, candidate status does not oblige the EU to provide any additional funding to Georgia, nor does the EU undertake an obligation to allow a candidate country to join the EU within a certain period of time," Kobakhidze said.

According to Kobakhidze, Georgia is ahead of both applicant countries in all relevant parameters.

"Everyone understands perfectly well that the EU has no reason to reject Georgia's candidacy, especially if it grants candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova. Remember that Georgia has achieved all tangible results in terms of integration with the EU under our government, signed the Association Agreement and the Free Trade Agreement with the EU under the Georgian Dream and introduced a visa-free regime. Georgia is ahead of both applicant countries in all relevant parameters, which no one can deny."

This was stated by the chairman of the Georgian Dream, Irakli Kobakhidze.
