I am very grateful for such recognition and solidarity from Europe - Mikheil Saakashvili on the EPP congress

The third president of Georgia, Mikhel Saakashvili, in another letter, refers to yesterday's congress of the "European People's Party" and the symbolic gesture. He writes that what happened yesterday in Rotterdam was an unprecedented occasion for Georgian and Ukrainian politicians.

Mikheil Saakashvili thanks Europe for its recognition and solidarity.

Due to my health condition, I can not properly engage on social media, but I decided to respond to this topic.

Yesterday, I saw the congress of Europe's most influential People's Party, which was hosted in Rotterdam by the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, and attended by the leaders of many European countries.

The chairman of the party, one of the most prominent politicians in Europe, Donald Tusk, read my address at the end of his speech. My chair was in the first row, symbolically next to Yulia Tymoshenko's chair. Yulia was just as unjustly imprisoned in Ukraine by Yanukovych and Maidan released her from captivity.

What happened yesterday in Rotterdam in regards to me was an unprecedented case for Georgian and Ukrainian politicians (and I am a Georgian politician and a current Ukrainian official at the same time).

I am very grateful for such recognition and solidarity from Europe.

My position is clear as day - despite the great tragedy that befell Georgia as an oligarchic regime, despite our illegal and unjust captivity, Georgia must continue to move towards the EU. It is completely inappropriate to compare Turkey with a multi-year candidacy. Every small country that became a candidate soon became a member of the European Union. We will definitely become a member of the EU!
