According to the chairman of the Georgian Dream, Irakli Kobakhidze, the European Parliament became a victim of a fake campaign and the campaign to protect criminals has reached the European Parliament. He listed at a special briefing what this campaign "snuck" in the resolution:
"Let's touch on a number of relatively minor factual inaccuracies and lies that the campaigners snuck in the European Parliament resolution. For example, we read in the resolution that the government still refuses to transfer Mikheil Saakashvili to a private clinic, when Saakashvili is currently in a private clinic.
We also read in the ruling that Leqso Lashkarava died of his injuries on July 5, when the true cause of death became known to the public.
Such lies have not got into in any of the rulings and official documents passed by the Georgian Parliament since 2012. When specific individuals manage to sneak such gross factual inaccuracies and lies in a European Parliament resolution, it is extremely disturbing," Kobakhidze said.
According to him, the resolution is mostly based on a description of the July 5 events and the resolution does not explain that 12 criminal investigations were launched, which resulted in 31 people being detained, which Kobakhidze "does not consider" a technical error in the resolution.
"In the resolution on the events of the 5th of July, we read yet another misinformation that attacks on journalists in Georgia have reached unprecedented proportions since the 5th of July. It's a pity that such facts are not verified before a resolution is passed in the European Parliament," Kobakhidze said.
Kobaidze noted that the Parliament checks all the factual circumstances before approving any document.
