According to Georgian Dream MP Dimitri Khundadze, if Georgia is granted EU candidate status with the same unfair obligations as the unfair accusations reflected in the resolution, the country should in turn, decline. He commented on this topic to Interpressnews.

The MP says that "it is not worth giving up a country's dignity at the expense of status."

"Yesterday's European Parliament resolution crossed all boundaries. It was an open insult to the Georgian people. Moreover, we have not seen such an unfair Europe since the independence of Georgia. We cannot give up our dignity for the sake of status! Today modern Europe, one of the creators of European values, humiliates us. The Constitution of the EU clearly states that this union should be based on the principle of equality. And what did we see yesterday? We saw the brash EU countries insulting one of the oldest civilized states in the European family. We did not work for it in the 19th century, nor have we fought for it in recent decades. The anger of the Georgian people yesterday is just. The history of Georgia is the history of the struggle for freedom. Yesterday was not a day to demonstrate recognition of our country's democracy and independence. On the contrary, we had the feeling that Georgia's independence was still in danger. What do we care who the ruler is if we have to fight for independence again! Yes, interfering in the internal affairs of the state and denying the choice of the majority of the population is an attempt to undermine the independence of the country," Khundadze said.

According to him, no one can intimidate the state and Bidzina Ivanishvili with threats of sanctions, and it is a dangerous political game.

"No one can intimidate Bidzina Ivanishvili or the Georgian state with threats of sanctions. On the contrary, yesterday it almost destroyed the European choice of the Georgian people. This is a dangerous political game. Current global processes have made it even clearer that EU membership is not only the prospect of Georgia's future, but the prospect of Europe itself. As for the forthcoming EU decision, if Georgia gets candidate status with the same unfair obligations as the unfair accusations reflected in the resolution, the country should refuse in return," Khundadze said.
