Public defender Nino Lomjaria says she has a question for the president as to why she is not taking appropriate steps that could be considered compliant with European Union requirements. Lomjaria says she was at yesterday's briefing on issues she agrees with the president on, although she thinks Salome Zurabishvili could have acted.
"I also have questions for the President, because if she thought there were some legislative changes and laws that were unreasonable, she could have acted and vetoed those laws, or, as you know, she could have used her presidential authority to pardon Nika Gvaramia I even appealed for her to do so, for some reason she did not mention that this issue is also mentioned in the resolution and bypassed the issue of pardon. So I have questions for her, for example, why she does not take appropriate steps that could be considered compliant with the EU requirements. Of course, there is not much she can do, but whatever her mandate and capabilities, I think that if she has a complaint against the government, she can also take appropriate steps," Nino Lomjaria said.
As for the announcement of the rally, the Ombudsman noted that this is not the time to divide society.
