Ukraine and Moldova are given the status of candidate in advance, as an incentive - Garibashvili

According to Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, the European Commission recommended that Ukraine and Moldova be granted EU candidate status in advance as an incentive.

According to Garibashvili, the recommendation on the prospect contains the same entry for all three countries, although the granting of the status in the case of Ukraine was conditioned by the war. As for Moldova, Garibashvili said Moldova was also affected by the war in Ukraine and the country is in a difficult situation.

"Moldova and Ukraine have exactly the same track record in terms of prospects. They also wrote that the European Commission recommends giving them perspective and status, that is, in fact, status is given in advance. This is an incentive for Ukraine, which is embroiled in such a horrible war, and for Moldova, which is also in a very difficult situation. But at the same time, they also require a number of reforms. In our case, it is the contrary, we have to fulfill all these conditions first, and, of course, after that Georgia will get the status.

We understand very well that Ukraine is in a worse situation, 20% of the territory has already been lost and the war continues. Moldova is also in a difficult situation. If anyone is affected by this war, it is Moldova," said Garibashvili.

For reference, on June 17, the European Commission recommended granting status to Ukraine and Moldova. He demanded preconditions for Georgia.
