Mamuka Mdinaradze believes that by objective criteria, the European Commission's recommendation against Georgia is unfair. According to Mdinaradze, Ukraine and Moldova were granted candidate status only because of the war in Ukraine.
"When our friendly countries were given candidate status, it was very good, because it was an incentive for them in this difficult situation, first of all for Ukraine, because it is in a very difficult situation, there is Russian aggression, and these people still needed basic moral support, and we welcome this, and then there is Moldova Moldova, which after Ukraine, has suffered most from the war.
In the case of Georgia, if we take objective criteria, in this case we can call it an unfair decision, but the head of the Council of Europe also directly said one thing: if there had been no war in Ukraine, it would probably have been a different decision and secondly: he mentioned the geography. Geography was an issue which was often hinted at by our friends, such as the delay in starting the negotiations, but the best thing is that even though the negotiations started late, we got the results earlier, so this gives us reason to be optimistic that geography will not be a determining factor," said Mamuka Mdinaradze.
For reference, the European Commission recommended granting the status to Ukraine and Moldova on June 17. It demanded preconditions for Georgia.
