Tbilisi Mayor Kakhi Kaladze says he expected that the European Commission would also accept a recommendation on the candidacy status for Georgia. He says that claims that Georgia is not a geopolitically interesting place are disappointing, and if they only now found about the countries location, it's baffling.
"Frankly speaking, I personally expected Georgia to get candidate status, but unfortunately, this decision was not made, and of course it has its explanation, and we have to tell the public everything, there is nothing to hide, why this decision was made while they talked about three countries, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine and all three countries have almost the same reservations, they have to fix something, we have to work on it, two countries got status and Georgia was left without status.
This is of course very bad, very regrettable, and we know why all this happened, we must continue to work in the direction that whatever provisional reservations we have, everything must be done, and as we did with the association agreement, the same visa.
It is very upsetting when we hear statements that geopolitically Georgia is not an interesting place, A straightforward statement was made about this, which is disappointing. We've been moving toward this for 30 years, and if they only now found out about our location, it's baffling, and I don't know what to comment on that," Kakhi Kaladze said.
