President vetoes law on wiretapping

Published:

President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili has vetoed the law on wiretapping. This was recently stated by the president.

"Today I am vetoing the law that concerns expansion of wiretapping and thus restriction of human rights. I am vetoing the law because it should be a sign that I do not agree with it. I know it will be overcome and it will not change anything in substance, but I am using it and I will veto every law that will be passed in the wrong direction in these 6 months. This is a political veto rather than a legal one because I cannot allow Georgia to pass a law that further restricts human rights in these days, when we are asked to provide more guarantees in this regard, to be more democratic and more European. This is what I have to say today," the President said.
