In connection with the vessel and cargo entering the port of Batumi, the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia is issuing a statement:
"A Turkish-flagged vessel entered the port of Batumi on June 26 this year.
The statutory audit revealed that neither the ship nor its owner was listed on the international sanctions list. Accordingly, the vessel was allowed to enter the Georgian port, as was clarified by the Maritime Transport Agency.
As for the goods placed on the vessel, in full compliance with the law, the Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance requested all the necessary documents on the spot, which certified that the goods placed on the vessel were the cargo to be transported to Turkey, which was currently oil from a sanctioned company.
In view of the above, the cargo was refused to be unloaded and no further customs procedures were carried out. At the moment the Turkish-flagged vessel is leaving the port of Batumi with the cargo.
The Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance, in accordance with Georgian legislation and international agreements, will continue in the future to strictly control all goods included in the list of international sanctions by sanctioning countries," the report reads.
