The partners did not see the government's willingness to carry out the necessary reforms for the EU candidacy - Lelo on the postponement the evaluation until 2023

"Lelo" responds to the postponement of the assessment of Georgia's implementation of the 12 points until 2023 with a special statement, which states that once again it is confirmed that the "Dream" has lost the historic opportunity for Georgia.

According to the party assessment, European partners did not see the readiness and willingness of the Georgian authorities to carry out reforms in order to become a candidate, which led to delays and indefinite postponement of the issue of Georgia's candidacy:

"Today it was once again confirmed that the Georgian Dream government lost Georgia's historic opportunity to obtain EU candidate status, which led to the postponement of the decision indefinitely.

Instead of the Georgian authorities sparing no effort to use the unique historic moment to return to the "Michel Agreement" of April 19 and implement all the essential reforms in time, the authorities continued deepening polarization, attacking their political opponents and producing aggressive rhetoric against Euro-Atlantic powers.

As a result, Georgia's partners saw neither the willingness nor the ability to implement the necessary reforms for an EU membership candidacy. That's why the issue of Georgia's candidacy was delayed and postponed indefinitely. Moreover, the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee made it very clear at today's hearing that under the current government and oligarchy, which refused to implement critical reforms despite years of appeals, Georgia would not be able to receive candidate status in December.

Since the pro-European choice of the absolute majority of the Georgian population is important for our partners, the realization of which is hindered by the incompetent, damaging course of the anti-European Georgian Dream government, the EU postponed the discussion in order to prevent Georgia from being denied candidacy again. This is another absolutely direct indication that Georgia will not be able to obtain EU candidate status under Ivanishvili's oligarchic government.

In this situation, "Lelo" believes that we must focus on the proper and timely implementation of the 12 points stipulated by the European Union.

It is for this purpose that "Lelo for Georgia" supports an extraordinary parliamentary session to immediately implement the 12 points of the European Commission.
