Public Defender Nino Lomjaria again asks the President of Georgia to consider the Ombudsman's petition to pardon Nika Gvaramia. Nino Lomjaria hopes that the court of appeals will correct the shortcomings of first-instance judiciary.
"The charge against Nika Gvaramia was completely unfounded, and the court used his incarceration in a way that did not justify his conviction at all. I think the appeal will go a long way if the court of appeals to discuss the case amicus represented by the public defender in the first instance, as well as the legal evaluation. which we did with the first instance decision, and I have great hope that the errors of justice in the first instance will be corrected in the court of appeals.
I again ask the President of Georgia to consider the petition with reasoned argumentation presented by the Public Defender and I believe that when we are talking about a very grave violation of human rights, decisions should not be based on some political expediency" - Nino Lomjaria says.
