"...the other [disinformation] is that the U.S. is not a supporter of peace, democracy, security of Georgia and our assistant in raising our defense, but rather is pushing us towards war. This is unbelievable manipulation and disinformation . I'm not saying that some Georgians don't repeat it, that's how disinformation works - there are several channels that can be used. And it's certainly very destructive, and I say and think we all need to be clear.
You don't have to defend yourselves because it's unthinkable today for somebody to say that the United States, which has never looked at one inch of Georgia's territory, is trying to start a war and open a second front. And Russia, which, in our experience, has occupied our territories and, at various times, has invaded almost all of its neighbors, as if it were responsible for nothing.
So, we must categorically oppose this idea of a second front. This [disinformation] is very destructive because it is directed against the occupied territories, our citizens living there and their de facto government, it is an attempt to sow fear there of what Georgia can do, and our policy towards these territories is very clear - they are ours, they are our citizens, and we want to reunite these citizens, we do not want to annex territories by war, we want a united Georgia that will be united by a collective decision, and this is our firm policy."
This was stated by Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili, addressing participants of the international conference held in Tbilisi last night at the Orbeliani Palace.
