The government introduces new rules for the media. The freedom of critical media will be significantly restricted if the amendments to the Broadcasting Law initiated by the majority are legalized.
The opposition and NGOs suspect that the government will use the bill to put financial pressure on the media, because according to the amendments initiated by Dream, in case of the regulatory commission sanctioning a broadcaster, they will be forced to pay the fine. Unlike the previous entry, where the media could challenge the sanction in court and not pay the fine within this period.
Today the parliament is discussing amendments to the Law on Television and Radio Broadcasting. The parliamentary majority, opposition, NGOs and media leaders are participating in the session. The initiative belongs to Georgian Dream.
