Parliament will elect the Public Defender by open voting

MPs adopted amendments to the draft regulations of the parliament, according to which the People's Advocate will be elected by open vote.

The amendment was supported by 104 MPs and was considered by the legislature on an expedited basis.

For information, the term of office of the current Public Defender Nino Lomjaria expires at the end of the year. Parliament must elect a new ombudsman in December, which requires the vote of 90 deputies.

The initiator of the bill was MP Levan Iosseliani.
