29 in favor, 21 against - The US Congress Budget Committee approves the bill

29 pro, 21 against - The Budget Committee of the U.S. Congress has approved a bill freezing 15% of financial aid to Georgia.
Whether a strategic partner will impose sanctions on the government of "Dreams" will become clear in a few months - until October, and the first step has already been taken.
Part of the aid will be suspended if the Dream government does not take effective steps to strengthen democratic institutions.
The Congress is currently awaiting a report from the Secretary of State on what the Georgian government is doing to strengthen democracy. The account also includes an explanatory note detailing in which cases 15% of the allocated aid can be frozen.
The United States will monitor the implementation of electoral reform, the independence of the judiciary, civil society, opposition party rights and media freedom. It will also actively monitor how the government works and whether  it limits the informal influence of oligarchs in the country.

According to the opposition, the Congress decision is a signal from a strategic partner that it is time for changes in Georgia.
