From a media perspective, there is no danger...Such a mess should end - Gakharia on regulator’s request

Published:

The Prime Minister states that the amendments to the law on electronic communications do not pose a threat to the independence of the media and critical media.

According to Gakharia, the draft law explicitly states that the amendments are not related to the mass media. It's just another lie, there' s no threat to the media. The legislative initiative explicitly states that this does not apply to the media. One thing that should be remembered is what has been going on in the country so far, such a mess, should be stopped.

There is a critically important infrastructure in the country for which, in addition to its owners, the state is also responsible. Therefore, since we have a full legislative framework for the management of critically important infrastructure, we should of course take care of such areas,- Gakharia said.

This is about a legislative initiative of the National Communications Commission, which gives the regulator the right to appoint a desirable interim manager for the media.

Representatives of mass media and non-governmental organizations demand to suspend the discussion of the draft law and to call it back from the parliament. With this request, 11 media organizations have issued a joint appeal today. The bill will be considered in an expedited manner today within the framework of the committee hearing.
