Protest demonstrations begin today near the Georgian-Russian border. The protesters have already moved from Rose Square to the Lars checkpoint, where they will protest against dangerous migration from the occupying country.
The main request of the citizens of the occupied country is simple - to close the border to Russian citizens, as their uncontrolled influx increases the risks to the security and economy of Georgia.
"In connection with the mobilization announced by Putin, people with military experience, who may have taken part in combat operations in 2008, are arriving in Georgia from Russia. So once again we declare that the position of the government is traitorous, and the citizens think differently," says Giga Lemonjava, a member of the Droa political council.
Participants of the action, the leaders of party Droa's civil activists and citizens of Ukraine will be on the territory of Upper Lars in a few hours. Representatives of the Ukrainian embassy are also present with them.
"We are here to support Georgians who are protesting against the mass influx of Russians into the country. These people have different values, they don't know your culture. We call on everyone to stop the mass influx of Russians into Georgia! We must show the whole world the true face of Russia!" says a Ukrainian citizen participating in the rally.
The Ukrainian embassy notes that people who come from Russia are only avoiding mobilization and are not concerned about war or occupation.
"We are representatives of the Ukrainian embassy in Georgia. We support the Georgian protest against the people who fled Russia. We agree with the Georgian people's opinion that the entry of so many refugees into the country is bad. These people are not tourists and do not come to Georgia for a vacation. They avoid mobilization. These people. They do not care that the Russian army is killing civilians and children in Ukraine. They try to save their lives, avoid the war and not participate in it. They don't care about Georgia and they don't care about the fact that 20% of Georgian territory is occupied by Russians. It is important for us to support the Georgian people," says an embassy representative.
