The cynical attitude of officials toward journalists has become a common practice - Ombudsman

Physical attacks on critical media, cynical treatment of journalists by officials, and restrictions on the right to freedom of assembly - The Public Defender will present a report at a meeting of the Parliamentary Human Rights Committee:

"Physical attacks on members of the critical media have increased. Cynical and contemptuous attitude of political figures to journalists, their unacceptability to the activities of state bodies and statements aimed at discrediting them have become a common phenomenon.

The protection of freedom of speech is directly related to the unimpeded realization of the right to assembly, in this connection the main problem is that during the assembly the code of administrative offences adopted in 1984, incompatible with the current constitutional order, is still used.  Law enforcement officers used disproportionate force in controlling and dispersing assemblies, and cases of detention were not consistent with the requirements of necessity," said Nino Lomjaria.
